  • All About Literacy

    Recently, students in preschool through the second grade listened to author Deborah Freedman talk about how she writes and illustrates her books. Mrs. Freedman described herself as an "idea collector". She told the students that she always has a notebook with her to record interesting ideas and observations which might make their way into a book. She described how she looks for "nice, juicy words". The students were intrigued and didn't even blink when Freedman told them that it often takes her a full year to complete a book.

    Author Gail Gauthier also spoke to students in grades three through eight about the writing strategies and techniques she uses in her writing. Once again, the students heard that writing takes practice and time, and the seeds for the best writing come from one's own life.

    Both writers conveyed to the students that good writers read a lot, and we learn to be a good writer by reading good writing.

    Students in kindergarten through the second grade dressed as their favorite literary characters. We had Amelia Bedelia, Fancy Nancy, Biscuit, Geronimo Stilton, Flat Stanley, and many other well known characters walking the hallways.

  • Saint Lawrence Boys Varsity Basketball Team Wins Big!

    The Saint Lawrence Boys Varsity basketball team won the Saint Ann League championship on Sunday, March 6th in overtime, 47-41, again Assumption School of Fairfield. Joey DeJesus and Jacob DeMarco added to the score with impressive three-pointers. Kai Imery played all over the court on defense. Mike Tennyson and Mike Wilson were vigilant in guarding the key Assumption players. The Saint Lawrence team ended their season 14-0 in league games!
